The Vampire Diaries: Damon Salvatore Keeps Me Tuning In

The Vampire Diaries keeps getting better. Well, maybe not the whole show, but Ian Somerhalder’s portrayal of bad vamp Damon Salvatore has. He’s become the main draw of the show for me. No lame sparkling, animal-drinking vampire here, Damon revels in his vampire nature. (Apparently his mother never taught him not to play with his food.) He also brings the character of Elena to life. If the slap across his face is any indication, there seems to be chemistry between Damon and Elena. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for Elena and Stefan. Their “epic” love story puts me to sleep.

I finally got around to making a few more icons from one of the Vampire Diaries photo shoots.

I’ve also finished a Damon/Elena fanart. It features lyrics from the song “Possession” by Sarah McLachlan.

Premiere night is almost upon us — 3 more days! Will Kevin Williamson strike gold again with The Vampire Diaries? I hope so. Afterall, he is the man who gave me the beautifully flawed couple of Joey (Katie Holmes) and Pacey (Joshua Jackson) from Dawson’s Creek. In anticipation of the pilot episode, the following icons were creating using promotional cast photos and episode stills taken from the gallery @ vampire-diaries.net.

L.J. Smith: The Forbidden Game and The Vampire Diaries

L.J. Smith wrote one of my favourite series of teen horror novels, The Forbidden Game. It was about an evil shadowman named Julian who fell in love with Jenny, a human girl, and was determined to claim her as his own. He engages Jenny in a dangerous game of “cat and mouse” where she and her friends must conquer their worst fears to win the game. If they lose, Jenny will belong to Julian forever!

It’s been well over a decade since I read this series, but I still remember that basic plot outline without having to “google” it. That says alot for L.J. Smith’s skills as a storyteller. I was heavily into the teen horror genre at this time and read quite a number of R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike books, but if you asked me now what they were about — I’d have no clue.

The Forbidden Game trilogy may be out of print, but you can still view the fabulous cover art at this fansite: LJS Cover Resource. Thanks to this site, I’ve been able to make some cool icons featuring Jenny & Julian from TFG as well as Elena and “the crow” from L.J.Smith’s other fabulous series, The Vampire Diaires.

True Blood: Episode 10 “New World in My View”

Another fantastic episode of True Blood. I’m still trying to figure out what exactly Sookie did to MaryAnn, because that wasn’t a power that she had in the novels. I love that no matter how dark the show gets, there’s always a little bit of humour thrown in and this week that was Jason Stackhouse shirtless, wearing a gas mask and waving around flares pretending to be “the god who comes.” Priceless.

My favourite scene though was in the first 2 minutes. Sookie dreams again of the nordic vamp, Eric Northman. The scene was so beautiful and tender. Sookie was so gentle with Eric as she comforted him over the loss of Godric. As usual, I’ve made a few icons.

Promo photos for next week’s show “Frenzy” have already been released, and I just couldn’t resist the sexy one of Eric.

I’ve been enjoying the recent addition of Sean Kanan to the cast of Y&R. Grey characters (not purely good or purely evil) are always the most fascinating in television, as well as novels, because they evoke such strong emotions from the viewer — love and hate. Deacon Sharpe is definitely grey, and Amber Moore is the woman who inspired him to be a better person, or so their back-story from B&B implies. I’ve yet to witness this on Y&R, but I can be patient. I’m sure the show will get around to the soulmate aspect of their relationship soon.

In the meantime, I’ll just continue to stare at the pretty that is Adrienne Frantz and Sean Kanan together once again!

Vampires Galore! True Blood and Vampire Diaries Fan-art

True Blood keeps getting better every week! Last Sunday’s episode “I Will Rise Up” is my favorite (so far) from Season two because it marks the beginning of Sookie’s relationship with Eric Northman. Will Sookie honor Godric’s dying wish and care for his Viking? Only time will tell. There are 3 episodes remaining and I hope we see Sookie’s decision before the finale.

I’ve been slowly working on more fan-art from Season two — enjoy!

Since I love all things supernatural — especially vampires– I’m looking forward to the premiere of The Vampire Diaries this fall. The CW has been releasing some wonderful promotional photos and I couldn’t resist making a few icons and a banner.
